You died. And you woke up here — in Abelina, a strange, hand-crafted afterlife, and a mature story about life and death told through who you meet along the way.

Description

One-liner

Abelina is a hand-crafted afterlife adventure — you died, and you woke up here, in a strange world you're only beginning to understand.

Short

You're Vasily. You died a while ago, and you woke up in Abelina, alongside a few other after-lifers whose ideas about the universe have just been badly shaken. There's no combat here — you move forward by exploring, and by working out what this place is through the people you meet and what they tell you.

Long

Abelina is a mature, hand-crafted story about life, death and transformation, set in a surreal afterlife that slowly gives up its meaning the further you travel. As your memories reform and the settlers around you change, the game asks a quiet question: if you were free of everything you feel stuck to in life, what would you find on the other side of the wall? It's the first game from CG-animation veteran Gabe Askew, with music and sound by Webby-winning composer Ryan Holladay, and it's published by Indieformer. It's still in development — more is revealed as it takes shape.

A note from the developer

"Life is most beautiful in transformation. It's the cocoon opening; the rollercoaster tilting over the first drop. What I want to share through Abelina is a question: if you were utterly free from everything you feel stuck to in life, what would you discover?"

— Gabe Askew

Gabe spent decades in animation telling other people's messages — nine years at Hornet, then supervising cinematics at Blur Studio. When he left Blur in 2024, instead of chasing another animation job he set out to make something visually and thematically his own. Abelina is the result: his first game, drawn from a lifetime of craft and pointed at one strange, personal world.
